Year In Review 2013 | Grateful Michigan Photographer

So the year is coming to an end, and what a year it has been.  I have had so many great clients, and have photographed so many beautiful faces.  I even added a few furry friends to the mix for the first time ever.  All in all, it has been a fantastic, colorful year.  I cannot wait to see where 2014 takes us.  Thank you to everyone who helped me make this year so special.  Happy Holidays to you all.  I'll see you in 2014.  :)

Here's a little Baby New Year to help bring in 2014.  :)

Just Another Day On The Farm | Mid Michigan Senior Photographer

I recently had the privilege of photographing a Senior whom I met through my participation in Septemberfest this year in downtown Ortonville.  Josh invited me out to the ranch, Executive Farms Inc, where he takes horseback riding lessons, so that we could capture some photos of him with the horse that he rides, named Thumper.  I, of course, was excited because I think horses are absolutely stunning creatures.  We did some practice shots to see how Thumper would react to off camera flash, and as I feared, she was a bit spooked by it.  So I put the flash aside, and watched as Josh worked his magic on her to get her calmed down.  He was so kind and gentle with her as he groomed her with a calming hand, and soon she was ready for her closeup.  It was heartwarming to see their growing bond bloom right in front of me.  I am glad that he was able to steady her nerves so that we could some great images of the two of them together.  :)

Something A Little Different | Waterford, MI. Senior Photographer

If you follow my work, you may have realized that I pretty much stick with photographing babies and young children.  I definitely market myself that way, so it is no surprise that I don't book many sessions that do not fit into that category.  Well, last weekend I decided to change it up a bit, and I accepted a session for a high school senior named Tiffanie.
Tiffanie was in a hurry to have her photos done in time to submit her yearbook photo to the school, so we scheduled her session quickly, and were blessed with a beautiful, but slightly chilly, day for the shoot.  Now, I have shot seniors before, but they are alway few and far between, and I always get a bit anxious before I shoot that age group.  Maybe it's because it's a totally different world working with someone who is so grown, than it is chasing after little toddlers that are spontaneous and full of energy, or shushing a tiny little newborn to sleep, and slowly and carefully curling them into position for their first portraits.  Perhaps my anxiety comes from my many years of being unpopular and incredibly nerdy in school, and always seeking acceptance.  I'll admit it, I am still slightly intimidated by the thought of not fitting in, but that is always short-lived when I meet my seniors and realize that they are just as, if not more, nervous as I am.  It is a lot to ask of someone, to stand in front of a camera and try to look natural.  I can't do it.  My eyes bug out of my head, and I usually end up making a crazy face, which is why I prefer to stay behind the camera.

Well, Tiffanie was not only natural in front of the camera, she absolutely shined, and she ignited an excitement in me to shoot future senior sessions.  She is a beauty through and through.  She is also a very crafty and inconspicuous outfit changer.  I don't know how she did it, but she was in and out of outfits in the blink of an eye, without flashing any of the goods.  Quite a talent.  lol.  And, luckily, she is not afraid of flying insects, since we shot one location that was swarmed with honey bees, and another that was swarmed with bumble bees.  She did it all without a flinch, and I am happy to report that we all made it out alive and unscathed.

It was such a privilege to work with Tiffanie.  I really enjoy seeing young people at this point in their lives, where they are really blossoming, coming into their own, and nearing a major crossroads in life.  I am so happy to be able to capture this moment for her.  Though she said that she was doing the photo shoot to appease her mom, I like to believe that when Tiffanie sees these beautiful images of herself, she will be pleased and excited that she participated in this shoot, and will be proud to share the images with her friends and family.  :)

Andrew, Paige and Desiree | Fenton Senior Photographer

Thanks to an invitation from one of my photog friends, I had the pleasure of shooting three gorgeous young models the other day. Andrew, Paige and Desiree were all so fun to photograph, and just knew how to work the camera. I normally have a hard time narrowing down images to include in my blog posts, but with THREE models, it's nearly impossible to choose which photos to showcase without going overboard. Well, I'm afraid that I went a little overboard for this post because I just couldn't NOT show all of these. They were all fantastic. I am so glad that I had the opportunity to meet and shoot them all. :)

First, we have Paige. Paige is an exotic beauty. She is a natural in front of the camera, and her smoldering stare could stop traffic.

Next, we have Desiree. She is the girl with the bright smiling eyes and fun personality. I could tell, while I was shooting her, that she feels at home in front of the camera, and she's a pro at directing herself into different poses.

And last but not least, we have Andrew. Andrew is not only an incredibly handsome guy, but he is also an athlete, and a gentleman. He pulls off the serious tough guy look flawlessly, but isn't afraid to be goofy, or shoot you an extra charming smile.

Andrew and Paige are a couple, and they are so cute together. I couldn't help but take advantage of an opportunity to capture them together. :)
