Sweet Sophia......Revisited | Fenton Toddler Photographer

As you might have already heard, I had the pleasure of doing a shoot with, the ever-so-sweet, Sophia in honor of her first birthday. Celebrating that first year of life is really bitter sweet for a parent. It is bitter because it means that the first year is over. Your baby is not a baby anymore, she's a toddler........a "Big Girl". Although, of course, it is sweet for the same reason. You can reflect on how much growing your little one has done in the past twelve months, and all of the many many milestones that they have achieved along the way. Then you imagine all of the things that your pride and joy will do and how they will change within the next year, and the years to come.

I am so fortunate to be able to share in that joy with my clients, especially the ones who allowed me to share in some of the earliest moments of their child's life. Sophia is one of those children. When I first met her, she was a tiny little peanut, with a full head of hair and tiny little toes. She was so perfectly sleepy, and a quintessential little model. Fast forward to our recent session, and the little girl that WALKED in was quite a change from before. I couldn't believe how big she had gotten. As I mentioned, she was walking independently, and exploring EVERYTHING. She had traded in her skinny little newborn legs for big girl legs with adorably squishy rolls, and a lot more muscle. She maintained the same glowing doe eyes, and added longer hair with the most gorgeous wispy curls. She has only gotten cuter in the past year, and I suspect that such will be the case throughout many years to come.

Sophia definitely kept us on our toes while we were shooting, but she made the session interesting, and in turn, we got many unplanned shots that are so special because they really represent her personality. I couldn't have done it all without the wonderful wrangling abilities of Mom and Dad, and the help of my great friend, and occasional assistant, Lisa Kaul, who REALLY did an excellent job of entertaining Sophia..........along with the rest of us.............with her impersonation of a jumping bean. lol

Jackie, I am so glad that I got to be a part of another very special part of your family's history, and I cannot wait to watch as Sophia grows and changes. :)

I just LOVE this picture. Not only can you see from the "Then" photo that she has always been a thumb-sucker, but you just know when you look at the "Now" image that she probably spends many moments throughout the day in that position. :)

Just a bit of caution for photographers and parents.....if you do a cake smash shoot, (or invest in one for your child), double check that none of the embellishments on the cake contain a toothpick. Mom brought this cupcake as a last minute replacement for a cake that didn't quite work out, and I didn't realize until after we started shooting that there was a toothpick in the candle. Safety is always key when you are shooting any age, so try your best to make sure that you check and double check for any possible hazards. Luckily, no harm came from this oversight, but I would not want to push my luck in the future.

Sophia Turns 1

Many of you may remember sweet baby Sophia from her newborn photo shoot from last year. Well, she came for another visit yesterday for her one year photos, and we had some fun. She has only gotten cuter and cuter in the past year. We were a little sad that the original giant cupcake, that her mama intended on bringing, unfortunately fell apart, but I don't think that Sophia minded a bit. She seemed to like the frosting, but she was relatively cautious with the whole thing, and never really went crazy with it. Either way, she looked adorable in the tutu that her crafty mommy made. (Mama also made the super cute banner in the background. I LOVE it). I wanted to post a special birthday greeting for this sweet little girl, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY SOPHIA!!!! I hope that you have an awesome first birthday party, and REALLY dig into your cake this time. :)

All in the Family | Burton MI, Baby & Family Photographer

I was contacted, months ago, to do custom portraits for an old friend of mine, Emily, who has moved away, gotten married, and started a family. This session was supposed to take place in August, but due to inclement weather, their flight was canceled, and I feared that we would not get a chance to do her session. Lucky for me, they were able to make a trip, all the way from Texas, to complete the session that we had been planning for so long.

As a special perk, I had the pleasure of photographing Emily's niece together with her daughter. They are close in age, and oh so cute. I got to meet her niece, Emma, first, and she is not only sweet, but she has got some rockin' dance moves. She can really shake it. I loved watching her bust a move to Tina Turner. The girl has good taste. :)

Soon after meeting Emma, Emily arrived and I got to meet her husband Mark and her sweet baby, Mae, for the first time. Mae is even cuter in person than she is in her photos........which is hard to do, since she is so adorable in her pictures. She has the funniest "toothy" grin. At least, it's as toothy as it gets when you just have one little tooth poking through. lol. Mae is also blessed with the most gorgeous blue eyes. They are simply mesmerizing.

Both girls did an awesome job, and I had so much fun working with them. And I was also glad that I got the opportunity to photograph Emily's family along with her mom and her brother and his family. I am thankful for Emily's mom, Laura, who welcomed me into her home, and allowed us to use it for the portrait session. I feel blessed and honored to have been chosen to capture three generations of a family that continues to grow. I would like to send well wishes to Emily's brother Jason, and his family, who are expecting a new baby very soon. I know that Emma will be a fantastic big sister.

Emily, I am flattered that you picked me to do your family portraits, and that you were willing to travel so far. I really had a lot of fun. It was so great to see you again, and to meet your family. :)

This rocking chair has sentimental value to Emily's mom, and I was happy to include something personal and special in their images.

A New Hat!?!?!?!? | "Innovative" Ortonville Photographer Lol

Here at Carri Beth Photography, we're all about bringing things to the next level, and taking advantage of the versatility of different props. So today we figured out a whole new way to use our tutus. Check out the TUTU HAT! Isn't it FABULOUS?.............ok, so we're not REALLY going to put tutus on your child's head. This was just me and Maddie playing around today, and of course I HAD to snap a picture. I made this tutu last year and never got to use it. It can be used as a tutu skirt for older toddlers, or a small tutu dress for younger babes. Andrew, Paige and Desiree | Fenton Senior Photographer

Thanks to an invitation from one of my photog friends, I had the pleasure of shooting three gorgeous young models the other day. Andrew, Paige and Desiree were all so fun to photograph, and just knew how to work the camera. I normally have a hard time narrowing down images to include in my blog posts, but with THREE models, it's nearly impossible to choose which photos to showcase without going overboard. Well, I'm afraid that I went a little overboard for this post because I just couldn't NOT show all of these. They were all fantastic. I am so glad that I had the opportunity to meet and shoot them all. :)

First, we have Paige. Paige is an exotic beauty. She is a natural in front of the camera, and her smoldering stare could stop traffic.

Next, we have Desiree. She is the girl with the bright smiling eyes and fun personality. I could tell, while I was shooting her, that she feels at home in front of the camera, and she's a pro at directing herself into different poses.

And last but not least, we have Andrew. Andrew is not only an incredibly handsome guy, but he is also an athlete, and a gentleman. He pulls off the serious tough guy look flawlessly, but isn't afraid to be goofy, or shoot you an extra charming smile.

Andrew and Paige are a couple, and they are so cute together. I couldn't help but take advantage of an opportunity to capture them together. :)

Adorable Oliver | Commerce Twp. Infant Photographer

This is Oliver. He is one bright-eyed baby boy, full of smiles and sweet baby noises. He is three months old, and growing fast. Watching him smile at his mama just melted my heart. You could just tell that he knew that everything was right in the world as long as his mommy was there. And little Oli is most definitely the light of his mommy's life. Mama is not the only one who Oliver looks up to though. It is obvious that he also adores his daddy, and there is no doubt that his daddy adores him right back. All together they make a BEAUTIFUL family. I am excited to watch Oliver grow throughout the rest of his first year of life, and beyond.

Lovely Little Charley | Ann Arbor Newborn Photographer

This is Charley. She is the cutest lil bug ever. She showed up wearing rock-n-roll jammies, and I knew from then on, we were dealing with a girl with some attitude. She did not hold back from telling us what she thought. On the contrary, she made it pretty loud and clear. ;) Though she started off with a bit of sass, she finished with FLARE. She was shedding like a snake, but I loved it because it is just another detail that we can capture to reflect on the quick changes she is already going through in her short life. She even lost her umbilical cord during the session. I'm telling you, this girl was growing up right before our eyes. From her fuzzy little head, to her tiny little toes, she is perfect in every way. Angie and John, you are so blessed to have such a sweet little girl in your lives. I am sorry it took me longer than I had anticipated to post your preview, but I hope it was worth the wait. I can't wait to finish the rest so that you can see them all. :)

A Word for Photographers | Your Local Humble Photographer

Today I came upon a fake blog in which someone (presumingly a pro photographer) pretended to be an obnoxious and naive amateur photographer that does all of the wrong things in her business, and therefore contributes to the "demise" of the photography industry. As much as all of this strikes a chord with every photog that has fought his/her way to the top, only to find that their best client's brother's sister-in-law just started "taking pictures", and will no longer be coming to you anymore for their bi-annual photo sessions, I feel that we as professional photographers can do something to combat this wave of amateurs. You may be wondering what in the world you can do to fend off all of the under-cutting, over-exposing, glorified (or sometimes not even glorified) snapshot photographers in your area, and the answer is simple. EDUCATE! Go to them, kindly, and talk to them about what they are doing. When an aspiring photographer asks you a photography question, ANSWER THEM. I'm not saying that you have to hold free workshops for all of the local wannabes, and share all of your precious secrets. It's as easy as saying "Here is a great resource for information that may benefit you in your journey to becoming a professional photographer. www.____________.com/forum" Not everyone will take your advice, but at least this way, you know you did your part in attempting to educate. Many of these newbie photographers are not malicious in the way they run their businesses, they are simply uneducated and totally naive to the way things should be done. I mean seriously, do you know ANYONE who would charge someone $50 for a disc of images, if they really knew that they could charge $800 plus? Probably not. This will not get better if they never learn that they are doing it wrong.

We were all beginners, once upon a time, and we should understand that everyone has to start somewhere.

Confession time:

I was one of "those" photographers. I had a friend who had a dslr, and it got me interested in getting one for myself. I just KNEW that I'd be able to get that camera in my hands, and go straight out to enlist all of the local seniors in my new photography program. Ha! Well guess what, I got that camera, took it out of the box, and stared at it totally bewildered and overwhelmed. I had NO idea how to use it, so I asked my friend for help, and she led me to a forum that changed my life. I became a member of that forum, and made some great friends, and learned sooooo much. I would NEVER be where I am today without the loving guidance of those ladies, [and a few fellas ;) ] and I am forever grateful for their help and support. With that in mind, I cannot even fathom turning my back to another aspiring photographer who asks for my help. I feel that I owe it to the people that taught me, to pass on the things I have learned, and hopefully create another talented and well educated photographer that we can all be proud of.

Let's face it, the amateurs are ALWAYS going to be around. The least we can do is lead them down the right path.

As for the topic of equipment and web presence, I believe that with talent and ambition, you can make anything work for you. I started with a blogger blog. That's it. No website. Not even a private URL for my blog. I am not ashamed to say that I [obviously] STILL use that blog today because, honestly, I am not a big fan of change, and I am intimidated by the learning curve that I might encounter in switching to something different. I will do it eventually, but for now I am focusing on other things. I don't think that the ".blogspot.com," at the end of my blog URL, makes me any less of a photographer.

As for equipment, I often see a bit of hypocrisy in the photography world. I cannot tell you how many times I've heard the "You're camera takes great pictures" vent, in which photographers exclaim that it is NOT what you shoot with that makes you a photographer, it is how you use it, and the knowledge that you possess that help create beautiful images. Yet, fast forward a few months later and that same person is posting about how she saw xyz photographer shooting senior portraits at the park with an entry level camera and a kit lens. And continue on to proclaim that you cannot be a REAL photographer without investing thousands upon thousands of dollars in equipment. I actually had this happen in a conversation I was in once. The other, highly respected, photographer had just finished complimenting my work, very enthusiastically, then went on to tell another beginner that was chatting with us that you cannot be a pro without top of the line equipment. Well, guess what.........

Confession time again:

....I shoot primarily with a Nikon D200, and a Nikon 50mm 1.8 that I bought used for $85. I don't have thousands of dollars worth in lenses. Rather, I have a family that has gone through hard times the past few years, and I made the executive decision to make due with what I have, since it works for me just fine, and do what I could to help our family make it through the tough times. Now, does that make me less of a photographer too??? According to this other photographer that just got done praising my work, it does. I am one example of how you can make things work.....you just have to put your heart into it. I may not be the biggest most successful photographer around, but I shoot what I love, and take great joy in the fact that I am fortunate enough to share my love for photography with the world. Granted, I did not have an ideal beginning in the world of photography, but I am very proud of how far I have come, and fully intend on continuing to learn and grow.

This is not meant to be a rant, and I am not looking down on those that find entertainment in things like the fore mentioned post, but I would just like for everyone to look at it from a different angle. I hope that I have motivated some of you to reach out instead of turn away. :)

Inspiration.

My inspiration comes from MANY places. I am inspired by the weather, lighting, shopping......(I find a LOT of inspiration at Hobby Lobby and Target). Whether it be a cool basket, with great textures, or a wonderfully soft blanket with outstanding colors, I am inspired by something everyday. One of my biggest inspirations is my kids. I love those babies so much, there are no words to explain it. Though, they don't all love to be in front of my camera, I get ideas just from watching them live their lives every day.

Sometimes my inspiration comes from something as simple as wanting a fabulous prize, which was the case recently, when I was reminded of a photo contest that was going on for one of my favorite vendors, Cillerenda's Princess Couture. I had about one hour to quickly throw together a mini shoot that included some Cillerenda's handmade accessories, so that I could have my photo submitted before the deadline. Lucky for me, I do still have one child who sometimes enjoys having her picture taken. And once I asked her if she wanted to do "fluffy princess pictures," she was IN. lol She was quite a trooper, and rocked out some super cute shots in no time. I managed to get my submission in on time, but unfortunately, I did not get enough votes to win. :( Either way, I LOVE everything I have purchased from Cillerenda's, and I got to enjoy having a little motivation to get some more sweet pics of my baby girl. If you have a princess that deserves some high quality girly-girl products, I definitely recommend choosing Cillerenda's Princess Couture. :)

Handsome little Cameron James! | Davisburg Newborn Photographer

Meet Cameron. He is a, very welcome, addition to our family. Sweet baby Cam is the first son of our dear friend/cousin, Sarah, and her husband Justin. Showing up a week early, this little guy is in a major rush to grow up already. He can pick his head up higher than any other newborn I've ever seen. He is the incredibly strong, and liked to dictate his poses for us. Lol. We did manage to keep him still for some really cute shots, and he entertained us by repeatedly "messing" on Daddy's clothes. But, after a few wardrobe changes, all was well and good. ;)

I am so glad that I had an opportunity to spend the day with you guys. I can't wait to finish the rest, but for now, I hope that you love your preview.

Itchin' for Summer | Ortonville Child Photographer

I am a Michigan girl to the very end. I love all of the season changes and the sights and sounds and smells that come along with each of them. But, my very favorite season is summer. I love the warmth and freedom that comes along with it. Freedom from heavy bulky clothes and coats. Freedom from having to wake up early every day. And freedom to plan whatever adventures my heart desires without having to worry about school.

I shoot a lot more in the summer than I do in other seasons. Perhaps the sunshine inspires me, who knows, but it seems to be the time of the year that I accumulate the most images. Last summer I did an impromptu photo shoot with my girls at sunset, in a gorgeous field of goldenrod, in Clarkston, that is not far from my home. I have had these images on my computer for waaaay too long before I actually decided to finish them. I had finished a few soon after the shoot, but missed some real gems, so I thought I'd share some of my favs with you all.

There is a second mini shoot thrown in here too, involving my three year old. Since she is the only one who really allows me to shoot her most of the time, I have A LOT of pictures of her. She is so cute, and such a cheese ball some times. These pictures make me smile. I hope they will do the same for you, and hopefully brighten your day. :)

Sweet Sweet Sophia. | Michigan Newborn Photographer

Facebook is a wonderful thing. It put me back in contact with one of my best friends from middle school, and gave me the opportunity to watch as she, first, rejoiced at the announcement of her pregnancy. Then I was able to follow her progress, and comment on her adorable little baby bump. Eventually facebook led to her scheduling a session with me so that I could help capture those, ever precious, first moments of the life of her sweet baby girl. I, of course, was elated and flattered to be chosen to take part in this fantastic milestone in the evolution of a family.

Baby Sophia was quite comfortable where she was, in mama's belly, and decided to show up fashionably late, but she is sooo worth the wait. When I first saw her, I was in awe of her tiny size. At just under 6 lbs (after losing a pound after birth) she was a perfect little peanut. Sophia was an angel all the way through, and was such a trooper, putting up with all of the set changes and repositioning.

Of course, I couldn't wait to see what we ended up with, and in turn, had such a hard time narrowing down the pics for this blog post, but here are just a few of this adorable little angel.

This shot is so sweet because it was not posed at all. After handing Sophia back to her mama, so that we could change our setup, she instantly stuck her thumb in her mouth and started sucking on it incessantly. Being a mom to a thumb sucker, I am partial to the sweet comfort that babies take in such a simple pleasure. I ♥ this pic. :)

It's not an addiction, it's true PASSION!

I am a hardcore photography FREAK. I spend more time than I would like to admit looking at everything related to being a photographer, and running a photography business. I have spent countless hours looking at the work of hundreds of very talented photographers, and I spend days, even weeks, knitting things like hats and cocoons that I might be able to use in future sessions. Out of ALL of the things that I love so much about photography, there is one genre that has taken hold of me, and refuses to let go. NEWBORNS!

I L-O-V-E newborn photography. My mind can go on and on for hours, days, weeks, just thinking about photographing newborns. I cannot go anywhere without seeing things and thinking how great it would be to use them in a shoot with a teeny tiny, squishy little baby. I actually have to sit down and write out a game plan for newborn sessions because I have too many ideas to pack into one shoot.

Photography is a HUGE part of my life. I would even say, shamefully, that it does distract me from my family at times. My husband is truly supportive in what I do, but often comments on how I am addicted to photography. I would like to refute that comment by saying that the time I spend looking at and learning about photography is not because I am addicted. It is just a testament to my undying PASSION for the art of it all........but newborn photography specifically. I wouldn't be opposed to admitting to a not-so-slight obsession, but it is my passion that drives that obsession. I noticed this week that I actually get a knot in my belly when I look at newborn photography, because it ignites a fire in me, and I am always itching for another chance to do what I love best.

I wish that everyone had at least one thing in life, that they had a passion for, in the way that I do for newborn photography. My passion for newborns drives me everyday to become a better, more creative photographer. Right now I am not the biggest, most well-known photographer in my area, but I know that someday I WILL be known for what I love. There is no other job in this world that I would rather do, and I am so thankful that I have the opportunity to do something that makes my heart so happy, and brings joy to others at the same time.

Year End Blowout!!!! | Michigan Newborn and Child Photographer

As we all know, the year's end is coming near, and everyone seems to be celebrating with a sale. Well, we are no different. I have decided to step out of my comfort zone, and offer something that I have NEVER offered before. This past weekend I was able to get out and enjoy a nice warm fall day, outside, with the stunning Chelsea Haas. We began our day at 10:00 am, in 65 degree weather. By the time we were done, it was a beautiful 74 degrees, and we were more than ready for lunch. Hunger aside, Chelsea rocked it out, like America's next top model. She was a dream to shoot. She caught the eye of a few curious spectators, one of which was a sweet little orange cat that we named Mr Biggles, (short for Mr. Bigglesworth). I had a lot of fun shooting this session, and just spending time with Chelsea and her bff, who just happens to be my youngest sis. All in all, it was a great day. I can't wait to show you the rest Chels.

There's a new SMUG in town!

What's a SMUG you ask. As it is described on the smug site,

"A SMUG is a place where you can learn, teach and meet up with other photographers who share your passion. It's also how we can tell you what's happening in our world and discover what's happening in yours. SMUGs are a great way to connect with other photographers and add a few weapons to your creative arsenal."

Last night we kicked off or first official meeting as the Detroit SmugMug User Group. There are smug groups all over the country, and now there is one right in our backyard. I knew, from the time that we had our planning meeting back in june, that this was going to be an awesome group, and our meeting last night did not disappoint. There were many people there that are passionate about all different forms of photography. Some professionals, some just interested in photography as a hobby. I saw some familiar faces from the june meeting, but I was even more excited to see new faces.

Most of all, last night, I was REALLY excited to meet our speaker of the night, Dawn McCarthy. Dawn is an extremely talented wedding photographer from Jacksonville, Florida, and the leader of the Jacksonville SmugMug User Group. I have known Dawn for a long time now, but have never met her in person. Let me tell you, she lived up to every expectation I had for her. She is even more beautiful than her photographs. I saw a mutual friend of ours say that she is cute as a bug's ear, and it's so true. From her country girl accent, to the rhinestone studded pockets on the back of her jeans and her sassy leopard print pumps. Appearances aside, Dawn is a great speaker. She is eloquent, honest, knowledgeable, and best of all, she is super sweet, but not afraid to show a little sass. It was also nice to know that I am not the only grown woman in the world who uses the word "crap" on a regular basis. Lol. Although she is a wedding photographer, and used many wedding analogies in her presentation, her points were relatable to many other forms of photography, or any small business for that matter. Dawn's presentation was engaging and inspiring, and I cannot think of any better way to kick things off for our group.

Dawn has definitely raised the bar for any future speaker that the Detroit SmugMug User Group will ever have. Luckily, our group has a great leader, Jerry Roek, and other great organizers that are passionate about both photography and their relationships with SmugMug. I cannot wait to learn and grow through this group, and get to know everyone better, but most of all, I can't wait to watch as our group grows into something that Detroit and Michigan can be proud of. There are great things ahead, I know it, and I for one am really excited about it. :)

Meet Mr. A. He is absolutely too cute for words. I had so much fun shooting him.....and of course, I got a little snuggle in there too. He looked so sweet hugging that little stuffed bunny and wearing the matching slippers, which were a special gift from one of his favorite uncles. He is just a natural beauty, and didn't have to put any effort into his first modeling gig. He even gave us a huge smile. He's already "cheesing" for the camera. Lol. Mackenzie's turning ONE!!!! | Ortonville, Baby Photographer

This past week I was able to enjoy some time with my sister and my little niece, Mackenzie, when they flew in to visit from California. Mackenzie has grown so much since the last time I saw her in January. She's turning one at the end of this month, and is on the verge of walking. Being that she lives so far away, I count myself extra lucky to be able to watch her as she clumsily attempts to take her first steps. Being a long-distance Aunty (and sister) is so hard. I miss them so much while they are away, and only wish that they could move back home. In the meantime, I try to enjoy them as much as possible while they are here, and I was ecstatic to find out that Mackenzie didn't cry every time she saw me this time. Lol. Actually, she has a very happy disposition, and is just too funny to watch. In anticipation of 'Kenzie's first birthday, we decided to do a photo session, while taking advantage of this beautiful weather. I wish I could be there for her very first birthday party, and I hope she knows that, even though I am not there, I love her very much.....and her momma too. :)

Little Mr. M. and Miss S.

These two little cuties are the lucky winners of my spring contest. We managed to dodge the rain the morning of their shoot, although little Miss S. had A LOT of fun with the tinkerbell umbrella that I brought to protect her from the potential rain. Lol. They are both so adorable, and Miss S. was looking especially cute in the dress that she won from the contest. The dress and headband were generously donated by Pick Your Pocket Studio. We had a great morning, and even got a bit of exercise while hiking through the park. So, all in all it was a productive day, and we managed to get some super cute images during all of our fun.

A Good Friend, and a Beautiful Family | Swartz Creek, Family and Children Photographer

My friend, Lisa, has been one of my biggest supporters for a long time. Her son Aiden was one of my very first clients, and it has been so fun to watch him grow. It was also great to watch their family grow, with the arrival of their adorable baby girl, Isabel, last summer. Of course I was excited to snag a chance to go out and photograph these sweet little "babies." They are so different, but both so amusing in their own ways. I had so much fun with them, and can't wait to watch Isabel smash her chubby little hands into her first birthday cake soon. Lisa, thank you so much for being so loyal and supportive. Meet the adorable Miss S. She is so sweet, and is just DYING to be all grown up. You can just see it in her eyes as she watches her big sister run and play. If only her little legs were steady enough to stand on, I know she would be running right behind her. She didn't want anything to do with laying down, or even sitting up. She just loves to stand, and she LOVES her Daddy, so it only made sense to have Daddy give her a hand, and help her stand up big and tall. She got tired of us pretty quickly, but we got some great shots. We'll just call this one "To be continued" for now. I know that there will be more to come of little Miss S., and even her beautiful big sis, in the future.

Pretty Little Baby Mack | Mid Michigan, Infant Photographer

This is my beautiful niece, Mackenzie. She recently visited, along with my sister, from California. It was my first time meeting her. She is such a sweet little thing, and she is stronger than any other baby I know that is her age. You can just feel all of her muscles when you are holding her. It's like she is holding you right back. Poor baby was a little out of sorts, being in a new place and all. Then, on top of that, she got a horrible cold during her time here. She looked so miserable with her runny nose and her heartbreaking cough. Though, through it all, she still seemed to find time to just be adorable, and even let me snap a few pictures of her sweet baby face. I miss her, and my big sis, so much. I'm hoping that their plans to move back home to MI hold tight, and they can make it back soon.

Back in Michigan. Yaaaaay!

First off, I'd like to apologize for being absent for so long. As many of you know, my family moved to Florida earlier this year, and left so many good friends, family and clients behind. Well, after being away from all of our loved ones for a period of time, we decided that we didn't want to live our lives so far away from everyone, so we have moved back home. I am now living in Ortonville, Mi, and am serving clients in Genesee County and Northern Oakland County. We were keeping our return a surprise for many friends and family, so I have refrained from posting in order to make sure that I did not slip up before we surprised my Mom on Christmas Eve. Surprising everyone has been a lot of fun. I can't even express how excited and relieved I am to be back. It seems like we missed so much in such a short time. One very important event that we missed out on in our time away was our very good friends welcoming their, long awaited, first baby to this world. It was incredibly hard to not be here for such a special event, so of course their home was one of our first visits after our arrival. Their son, Ryder, has to be one of the most adorable baby boys I've ever laid eyes on. I had the privilege of photographing him before Christmas and he was just a dream to shoot. He is such a happy baby, and already, at just 4 months old, has so much personality. I'm so happy that I finally got to meet him, and see him getting love and squishes from his proud daddy. And I'm loving the beautiful "Mommy Glow" that he has brought to his mama's face. His presence in this world is just another reminder that miracles happen every day, and I am so excited to watch him grow and play along side my own babies. I am so happy to be back in Michigan, and I cannot wait to get back to photographing my favorite clients, and hopefully meeting many new ones.

This handsome little guy was so much fun. He did all of the things that you'd expect a boy to do.....from climbing trees to rolling down hills, and just being goofy. But let me tell you, he knew how to work it when he wanted to. His mama loves to take pictures, and you can definitely tell that he has had practice in front of the camera. Meet Mr. K. He is an absolutely remarkable young man. When he was just 6 months old, he was diagnosed with having a brain tumor, and he has been through the wringer for years after. Despite all of the trials he has been forced to face at such a young age, he has persevered, and maintained a happy-go-lucky attitude. He will be receiving his certificate of completion for high school and has many plans for the future. He is such an inspiration, and an absolute pleasure to work with. Meet Princess B's big sister, Miss B. She has always been a very pretty girl, but is quickly becoming a beautiful young woman. I had a great time shooting her, and once she warmed up to me, I think she really enjoyed it too. We took a few minutes to play around with some shots on the trampoline. I did the second half of Princess B's session the other day, and it went GREAT. She was just a perfect little angel. We also got to get some photos of her older sister too. Princess B. was such a doll. She was wide awake for nearly the whole session. Although her session did get cut short due to an emergency with my son. So this session is really, to be continued. I can't wait because we will be getting pictures of her with her beautiful big sister. I hope you enjoy looking at these as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Here are a few photos from a short session I did for a friend of mine who is looking to get "growing belly" photos to document her progress with her first pregnancy. She would ask her husband to take a few pics, and they would all look like.....well let's just say, not what she was looking for. I sympathize with her. My husband was terrible at taking preggo pics of me. I really wish I would have had someone to do for me what I am doing for her. This was a lot of fun for me because I got to play a little. I have only had one other maternity session, so the practice was nice. I think that she looks so beautiful in these, and her little belly bump could not be cuter.

I got a new rug and made a new tutu for my daughter, and I liked the way the colors looked together....sooo, I enlisted my youngest daughter to be my model for the day. She did pretty good. She's the only one of my kids that isn't fast enough to get away from me yet. LOL. She's such a beauty, and her eyes are amazing.

I just entered this photo in a contest to win a Shootsac by Jessica Claire. You are supposed to use photography to depict why you need the shootsac. I rigged all of my gear on me using cup holders for the lenses, secured with neon zip-ties, and duct tape for the rest. This was a great idea, and I had fun doing the pics. The photos were all a little off because my husband was shooting the pics. I think the funniest thing is that I have my old nikon N75 on my shoulder, so that I had a camera to hold in the picture. It seems like such a little midget camera after toting around the D200. Anyways, I'm so excited, and I'm curious to see the other entries. Anyone can enter at the link below,

Sessions

Session Fee: $300 ($150 of this is reserved as a print credit to be put toward your purchase)

Carri Beth Photography requires that a session fee of $300 be paid in full prior to the time of the photo shoot. $150 of that $300 payment will be considered a credit toward the purchase of products from Carri Beth Photography. This fee is non-refundable. If the session must be canceled or rescheduled due to personal reasons, on the client's behalf, $75 of the session fee will be charged as a cancelation fee. The remainder of the paid balance will be put toward the price of a rescheduled session, and must be used within six months of the original date of the session. Session fees cover the time and talent of your photographer during the session and through the basic editing process. Any retouching requested by the client after basic editing will be subject to a fee of $25 for the first hour, (and anything there-under), and $5 for every fifteen minutes thereafter.

I do in-person proofing, and offer incentives on same day ordering. Anyone who places their order on the day of their gallery showing will receive 10% off of their entire print purchase.* All prices are subject to change, but are guaranteed for 30 days after your proofing session.

*10% off does not apply on packages.

Refund Policy:

Because of the custom nature of the images and products produced and sold by Carri Beth Photography, all purchases are final, and no refunds will be made. If there is a problem with your order, Carri will do her very best to rectify the situation, but is not obligated to exchange any products, or refund any payment put towards any products. My goal is to keep my clients happy, so if you have a question or request, please feel free to speak with me personally.

NOTE TO CLIENTS:

Being that I LOVE what I do, and take pride in my work, it is very hard for me to offer digital images for fear that they will be misused. In NO WAY does the purchase of a digital image constitute any rights to edit or modify the image(s) in any way. I put a lot of effort and a TON of love into every image I create, and I consider them all works of art. And we all know, you don't mess with art. ;)

I have also taken the time to try products from numerous Professional Imaging Labs in order to be sure that I am providing you with the BEST quality products. For that reason, I prefer that you NOT buy digital, and allow me to furnish the prints and products that you desire. It really makes me shudder to think of the lack of quality that you will receive when you print with chain stores. And really, is it worth it? Most people won't do much with their digital file after they buy it anyway. Think of how many photos you have stored on your computer that NEVER get printed.

I understand it is the new age of digital media, and that I need to grow with my wants and needs of my clients, and that is the only reason I am offering digital images at all. But I hope that, when you invest in custom portraits with Carri Beth Photography, you will also be invested in creating high quality keepsakes that will last a LIFETIME.

Carri Beth Photography does lifestyle portrait photography, specializing in newborns, infants, toddlers and children. I do not do extended family/Large group photo sessions. All sessions are done solely on-location, meaning, I come to you for your session. You may choose to use your home, or the home of a friend or family member. Or you may want to have the session take place at a local park or landmark. I use mostly natural light for each session, so well lit locations are desirable. All sessions take place at a mutually agreed upon location, which is chosen during the pre-session consultation. I am currently serving Oakland County, Genesee County and Lapeer County.

There are so many things you don't want to miss or forget in life. Having photos of those special moments will help ensure that you won't easily forget them, and it also gives you the freedom to share them with others who were not fortunate enough to be there to see it for themselves. My goal in taking photos for myself and for others is to capture the personality of whomever I am shooting. I want the pictures I take to make people smile when they look at them. Aside from being the best mommy I can be to my three beautiful children, and a loving wife to my wonderful husband, photography is my passion. I always try to learn new techniques, and strive to produce beautiful images, so you can be sure that my whole heart goes into every photograph I create. I really enjoy what I do, and I treat each session as a new, fun experience.
